This movie is adapted from a novel and nominated for 5 Oscars. I had only herd that this movie was about the Post War life in Germany. I had no idea how amazing it would turn out to be, and how the story would unravel. I do advise, there is nudity during the first 20 minutes that I wish was disclosed to me prior to viewing this, but it set up the story perfectly. Kate Winslet (Won Best Supporting Actress Golden Globes) plays an illiterate woman trying to cope with life after the World War II. She meets this young man on the streets who gets sick and takes him back to his house. After Michael is better he goes to sat thank you and brings her flowers. From there it turns into a summer of romance, and reading to her. Later in life, Michael is attending law school and goes to Berlin to observe a court hearing. Little to his surprise, It is Winslet on trial for war crimes. Michael is the only person who knows her secret and can set her free, or at least a lesser sentence, but chooses to keep his mouth shut. I recommend this movie to anyone, and I would go see it again!
